Technical Resource Center

The Institute is guided and led by the Board of Directors, elected by the membership. The Board, in turn, elects a President, a Senior Vice-President, and a Vice-President who, along with two other elected members of the Board, comprise an Executive Committee, empowered to act on behalf of the Board if necessary and also between meetings. A Secretary/Treasurer is retained by the Board to coordinate and manage the Institute and its finances.

The membership is structured and formed into a number of product-related divisions, each having its own technical focus/committee. Each division is open for member representation in accordance with the specific cutting tool products manufactured by their company. Currently, Product Divisions include the following:

Drill & Reamer
Tap & Die
Milling Cutter
Carbide Tooling
All Other Tooling
Diamond, PCD & PCBN
Substrate Materials
Tool Holders
Surface Coatings
Hack, Band & Hole Saws

Members also have many opportunities to become involved in Institute affairs through a network of general interest committees, such as Human Resources, Government Affairs/Assistance, Programs, and Statistics. Division Technical Committees focus on specific product-related technical issues, such as the development and maintenance of product standards (national and international), and may involve designations of standard and special products; material specifications; testing; types, forms and sizes; geometry and terminology; specification development and maintenance; product information and training materials, etc.

All Institute activities are closely monitored by Institute legal counsel in order to ensure strict compliance with all applicable antitrust laws.
